Happy December everyone!
As 2015 races towards its conclusion and we reflect on the year that was, it’s hard not to think about all the truly awful things that have happened (and are still happening) this year. We human beings do seem to have a thing for causing pain and suffering, don’t we?
As much as I could spend the next few hours and several million characters of text writing a very long blog piece about all of that, I’m not going to. That would be depressing. Just like depression, which is pretty depressing.
Instead, I’m going to focus on joy; moreover, the joy of giving. So for the entire month of December I’m spreading joy in the best way I know how – free stuff! I’m giving away my new book about conquering depression (Depression? F*** Depression!) for free on iBooks (Apple).
Yes, you read that correctly. For FREE! All you need is an Apple device with iBooks on it (that covers iPhones, iPads, iPods and Macs).
I’m giving my book away for free this month because it was never about the money. I wrote my book – which is part memoir, part self-help guide – to help those who might be experiencing a mental illness like depression.
When I was battling the worst of my own depression and anxiety for just over three years I found lots of self-help guides, however very few that really seemed to ‘get’ what I was going through on a daily basis. I wanted a book that was written by someone who had actually been through the worst of the worst, the lowest of the low, the darkest of the dark, yet I also wanted a book that was grounded in quality research and advice. I couldn’t find it, so I wrote that book myself (and started studying Psychology along the way!).
This is more than a mere book; it’s 260 pages of hope.
My book is not just for people experiencing a mental illness. If you know someone with a mental illness – and the chances are that you do, since it’s estimated that at least 1 in 5 will experience some kind of mental illness this year alone – or if you want to better understand mental illness (which is especially handy for managers/leaders who will likely find themselves leading someone at some point who has a mental illness), then this book is also for you.
Look, it can be a bit of a bleak subject however I’ve written Depression? F*** Depression! with a sense of humour where possible, so it’s not like you’re going to be feeling hopeless and despondent after reading it. It’s full of practical things that readers can do to manage their situation and to plan for the future. Based on personal experience and grounded in extensive research, Depression? F*** Depression! is all about offering an intimate, first-hand look at overcoming the challenges associated with experiencing a mental illness.
Get your FREE copy now from Apple’s iBookstore at: apple.co/1N2U0vB
(Note: If you own an Apple iPhone or iPad, you should already have iBooks installed – if not, you can find it for free on the App Store).
This is my little way of spreading some joy this month. Please share this post with anyone you know who might benefit from a free book about living with and conquering a mental illness. Thanks!
