Hi there! I hope you’re having a positive and happy start to 2020, and that if you or anyone you know has been affected by the fires here in Australia then I hope you’re staying safe and working through the difficult task of moving forward – my thoughts are with you.
It’s taken me nearly three weeks into this new year to make a decision about what I’m going to write in this first post of the year/decade on my blog, and frankly I still don’t have a clear idea of what I am going to say, so this is more a collection of my current thoughts about my work than a post about a specific topic.
As you would probably be aware, I’ve been working hard on my Let’s Talk About Mental Health podcast and website which is why I haven’t written anything on jeremygodwin.com.au for a while. Back in October & November I was issuing a weekly update on here about what was on the podcast that week, but I decided to stop that for several reasons: (1) If you follow me on here and you have any interest in the Let’s Talk About Mental Health podcast or website then you’re probably/hopefully following it by now, and (2) Repetition drives me crazy. Oh, and (3) I have new writing projects happening in 2020, so I’m going to need to focus on those on this website rather than competing with Let’s Talk About Mental Health for attention!
I’m very pleased to say that Let’s Talk About Mental Health has taken off really well – just over three months after launch, the program is now averaging over 2,000 downloads a month which is phenomenal (and tough to do, considering that there are over 800,000 different podcasts on Apple Podcasts alone (as at Dec 2019, according to Discover Pods), so a huge thanks for your support.
I’m focusing a lot of my energy at the moment on building my audience while I continue to prioritise quality content that is grounded in quality research, and there are lots of great topics coming up in the weekly episodes this year. New episodes are released every Monday morning (Australian time), and you can listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, YouTube and other platforms, or you can read the written version on the website. I also send out the weekly Mental Health Talk newsletter every Friday which is a round-up of articles and resources to improve and maintain your mental health and wellbeing – read it here and you can also sign up to have it land in your inbox.
In terms of other things I’m working on, I have several writing projects coming up over the next few months and I am now devoting myself full-time to my writing and speaking work. I kicked off this year by starting a daily post series on my Instagram account @jeremygodwinofficial titled ‘The Simple Truth Is…’ – each day I post a new item with direct and thought-provoking advice, as an extension of my 2017 book ‘No-Nonsense Advice For Living’ and reflective of the fact that since relocating from the city to the country I have discovered the joys (and mental health benefits) of focusing on greater simplicity.
